Finals Week!

School is finally almost over! Of course it couldn’t leave without a bang…… finals week. I’m pretty sure almost all college students have been dreading this week. Luckily my finals week isn’t too stressful this time because I only have 3 classes this semester. I do feel bad for those student regretting their academic decisions as a result of finals week. One thing I definitely learned AGAIN, is to try my absolute hardest not to procrastinate! I say this at the end and beginning of every semester and I still can’t seem to get it right. However, this semester I think I might have learned my lesson. I guess we’ll see this summer when I begin my summer classes.

Search Engine Optimization

So today I became a little more familiar with search engine optimization. According to module 11 in class, “search engine optimization refers to the practice of designing and editing websites in a way that improves their chances of being found when a user searches for content in a search engine.” I realize now how important this is because it affects the number of people that will see or come across my site. I want to be able to make my site in a way that has enough tags and relevant content that will make it more likely to appear when people search for content. I plan on using some SEO strategies I learned about on “5 SEO strategies Every Company Needs to Master.” For example, the first step I learned was “Get Quality Links” (Module 11). According to the page, this step includes content selection, networking, etc. This step seems to be very important in my opinion because it is the basis from which your sites success is based.

Learning About Websites

So I sketched my website and it was more helpful than I thought it would be. It helps you to actually see the ideas that are in your head all in front of you at once. I’m definitely going to keep this in mind for any future website I make. The first tip that was mentioned that stuck out to me was the tip given about having a mini description about what your site is about under the title. It helps to let readers know what the purpose of your website is. Another tip that was given that stood out to me was using visual imagery highlighted words and bullet points to help you get your exact point across to viewers. The third tip that stood out to me was the tip about allowing separate pages for each “service.” For example, basically don’t load everything onto one page. The fourth tip that stood out was the tip about knowing and understanding your audience. This stood out to me because knowing and understanding your audience is important because it guides you on how to set up you information. The fifth tip that stood out was the tip that stated organize content into logical categories. This stood out to me because this affects how clear and affective your website is.

Job Interview

So today I have a job interview. It’s for an on campus job. I’m verrrryyyy optimistic about it because I have been craving a new job. Currently I work at Lenny’s Sub Shop. Working at Lenny’s is pretty simple and self explanatory. I have been working there for a little over a year. They’re very flexible with scheduling so that helps a lot. I’m hoping that I can work at Lenny’s and the on campus job at the same time. It would be great for me financially, but I have to make sure I don’t overwhelm myself. I already have an issue with time management, especially when it comes to school work. Literally, I am the Procrastination Goddess and I’m horrible with time. I don’t feel too bad about it though because 98% of college students have these issues. Well I guess we’ll see how this goes.

Starting up a Website!

This is definitely a year of trying new things! First, I started with the blog. Now, it’s time to try out making my own website! This should be fun. Okay so I made my Weebly account. I downloaded the app on my phone and discussed to explore from my phone first. I went through the tutorial version so I could get a feel of how Weebly works. It basically walked me through the editing options. There are so many editing options. Similar to the blog experimenting, the editing options always stress me out. The theme I chose was the Cento theme. This theme seems more visual to me. I chose this theme because it seems very modern and organized. I like this theme, however I think I will change it. The main reason I think I’m going to change it is because I know myself and I’m super indecisive. It seems to be similar to making a blog site, however it’s different because of course I probably won’t have as many words on the website. I’m still not sure what exactly I want to focus on for the website. I’m thinking of focusing on my current life in college because that’s what I chose to do for the blog site. Making the website doesn’t appear to be hard. I’m probably  unintentionally going to make it difficult for myself with my indecisiveness. This should be a fun experience. I’m very optimistic about it because I’ve never done anything like this before.

Student accident on campus frightens pedestrians and alerts drivers!

Today started off as a regular Monday. Of course I got out of bed late and took too long to leave the house, like usual.  I was rushing to class when I noticed a traffic build up near the building where my class was. I took an alternate route and parked and began walking to class. Suddenly, I noticed a police car, an ambulance, a fire truck, and a small crowd near the crosswalk. I continued to walk and then I noticed in the middle of the crowd there was a girl on the ground. I soon realized she had been hit by a car while on her bike. I instantly felt bad for the girl and I hoped that she was okay. As I continued to class I saw them put her on a stretcher as she appeared to be unconscious. This incident made me think about a lot; for example times when I have been driving and not paying attention to pedestrians or times when I’ve been walking and not paying attention to my surroundings. It made me realize that you never know what can happen so always pay attention and be aware of your surroundings. We should do this not only for the sake of our lives but for the sake of others’ lives as well. I just thought about how hurt I would be if I received a phone call about one of my siblings or close relatives being injured. I wouldn’t wish that feeling on my worst enemy. Hopefully this incident sent a message to students and staff on campus.

Learning About Blogging

Blogging is actually more difficult than I thought it would be. There are so many different editing options that it becomes overwhelming. So when I saw that the module this week was about the dos and don’ts of blogging I was relieved because I could use a little guidance. The dos and don’ts are very helpful because they help show me upfront what I should avoid when blogging. I want to make sure that my blog is simple, yet fun. Another thing that is important to me is making sure my blog is personalized, yet relatable. This is such a new, fun way of learning. I can apply the blogging dos and don’ts to my desired career field because I can use the guidelines for blogging in everyday communication situations.  Therefore, this is perfect because I want to work in the communications field. I know that’s very broad but I’m not very picky so I’m open to working anywhere related to communications and even business as well. One thing I learned about this week that I will apply To my blog post  from now on is the importance of planning. After reading all about planning I understand that I need to apply this to my blog posts to make sure they are readable and interesting to my audience. Another thing I read about that stuck out to me was “be relatable, be yourself.” This stuck out to me because I’m a huge advocate for being yourself and loving yourself. I’m hoping that through all of my blog posts my audience can see some who I am. However, also I’m hoping that they can see how comfortable I am with being myself and hopefully that will encourage them to be themselves.
